After 13 plus years of waiting, we've finally reached the point where everyone in our family can ride their bike well enough for us to go on some "real" bike rides.
We wanted to go on a ride that was as free of cars as possible. Fuller said he knew a "GREAT" 5 mile round trip course that they ran during track season. Our first mistake was trusting his opinion. Our second was not asking questions about the path. It was a lovely, car free ride, but it had some serious hills to go up and down.
We have since come to realize that Rowan is very afraid of riding downhill and his little legs have a hard time making it uphill. I got to spend a chunk of our ride walking my bike beside Rowan and giving him a pep talk. Tears were shed, but we persevered.
When we hit the midway point of our ride we were rewarded with a lovely stretch of river to enjoy. We rested up while watching kite boarders, and tried not to think about the fact that we were now going to have to go back up and down those same hills to get home.
I'm looking forward to many more of these family adventures, but next time we'll hopefully be on flatter ground.

how fun for your family to be able to ride together now! and wtg Rowan for keeping up on those hills :)
thats the trail on which Jerome Ferrin took a nose dive off his bike...he skinned up parts of his face, etc...Richard was afraid that Eliza & JD would strangle him...so Rowan was smart for taking it slow
ohhh, what fun. :) We put "bike ride" on our summer fun list and then I remembered that I don't have a bike. And we have a 4 year old. ;)
