Pinewood Derby- A First and a Last

After spending five years watching one of his brothers compete in the pinewood derby this year Rowan was finally able to join in the fun. This was Grayson's third and final year, and the first time we've had kids competing against each other.

We had had some seriously competitive talk going on between Grayson and Rowan before hand, so we had to have a little chat about being good sports and focusing on the fun.

When we showed up for weigh in both cars were under weight. Every other year we have had an over weight car, so we didn't even think to bring extra weight. We ended up taping some quarters and nickels to the tops of their cars to get them closer to the weight limit.

There was some seriously exciting racing going on!

All eyes were on the finish line- especially Paul's. Much to his chagrin he got roped into being a judge at the finish line.

Grayson ended up coming in 2nd and Rowan came in 4th. Grayson was very sweet and encouraging to Rowan. He told him that 4th is great, especially your first year. (Grayson's first year he tied for last and the night ended in tears.)

After the official race the boys got to eat cookies and race for fun. It was quite the free-for-all! The boys loved this part of the evening the best!

Grayson is now officially retired from the pinewood derby, but Rowan's got 2 more years of racing fun ahead of him.
