October Sky
Yesterday afternoon a beautiful fall day and a long forgotten Christmas gift combined for an afternoon of fun and excitement. I had gotten Paul a rocket kit last Christmas, thinking it would be great fun for he and the boys. Then it sat on a shelf. After awhile I got tired of looking at it so I moved it to a more out of the way shelf, and then eventually out into the garage. Luckily Fuller remembered it existed and asked Paul about it. Friday afternoon the boys took it out for a go. They got one lift off in and were chomping at the bit to do it again. So Saturday Paul went and bought more engines, and they invited me to come watch. Oddly enough they never asked if I wanted to fire it off. We headed out to a nearby field and the boys (all 4 of them) indulged themselves in their favorite new hobby.
Sometimes it was hard to wait while Paul reloaded the parachute, and put a new engine in. It was especially hard when the Mom decided it was a good time to take lots of pictures.
Grayson liked to hunker down in the tall grass and act like an army guy, looking for enemy aircraft.
Paul brought enough engines so that the boys all got to have a turn firing it off.
Rowan was super excited when it was his turn.
LIFT OFF!
We spotted it! The box said the rocket could get up to 600 feet, but Paul thinks with the wind it may have been closer to 400 feet.
Looking for where it's going to land.
Then it's everyone out across the field to catch it when it lands.
Then we start the process all over again.
On one flight the wind carried the rocket a little too far, and it went over a fence. Good thing we had Grayson along, he likes to climb fences and isn't afraid to trespass. I think model rockets will be a recurrent activity for this family!

LOL We have the same Rocket that we had got Jake for his B-day in July, we took it to the beach once (too Windy)( and we've forgotten about it too)Maybe when Dax gets home in 2 weeks we can take it out to the field if it's still nice then...
Very cool. Looks like a fun Christmas present.
You always have so much fun with your boys! Noah would kill to have such a rocket - maybe for his birthday hmmmmmmm we shall see:)
That looks like so much fun! Your photos are just beautiful, so crisp. If you are ever bored after painting your door, making aprons, making ornaments and making throw pillows, I would love a little photography class. You have got some very wonderful talents.
We love lauching rockets! It's nice when the weather cooperates!
What fun! I really like the pictures of the boys in the hats.
SO COOL!! I will have to add this to Ben and Jamie's Christmas lists. Looks like a LOT of family fun :)
